Mathematics and baseball might not have much in common but they are two things Escambia Academy offers to Nick Mills who finds joy in the classroom and on the diamond.
Mills is a senior at EA that plays baseball, basketball and football for the Cougars’ athletics program.
He said he enjoys playing sports at school as well as in his free time.
Mills is a key element in the Cougars pitching staff as he is the No. 2 pitcher in the rotation.
He said he loves playing baseball simply because it is baseball.
Motivation is easy to find for Mills because it is something every athlete takes into a game.
He said getting pumped up for a game is just his way of being better than his opponent.
He also said his best performance came against Southern Academy.
Outside of baseball, Mills enjoys a certain type of schoolwork.
He said his favorite subject in school is math, and he added that it just comes naturally.
Away from school, Mills enjoys hanging out with his friends and working at Winn-Dixie.
He said he chose to work at Winn-Dixie to fight gas prices and have an activity to keep busy.
When he is not working Mills likes to have fun whether it be outside or inside.
He said he enjoys video games and tossing a ball around.
As a senior Mills has built up a lot of memories while a student at the Academy.
Mills said his favorite memory was his homecoming week this past fall.
