CENTURY, Fla. - Mrs. Rebecca D. White, 88, of Century, Fla. slept away to pleasant dreams on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Jay hospital.
She was a native of Wilcox County and had lived in Century most of her life.
She had been a very active and faithful member of the Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century where she had served as an Usher, Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, Supervisor of the Easter and Christmas activities, member of the Missionary Society, Choir # 2, Red Circle, Matrons and Matrons Chorus. She also had worked in the church’s kitchen. She had been the president of PTA and a member of the Neighborhood Watch Group in Century, Fla. She was a retired cafeteria worker with the Escambia County Florida Board of Education as she was a cook for more than 30 years at the Century Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her son, Juliois C. White Jr.; her mother, Vannia Tate; her former husband, Julious C. White St.; two sisters, Martha Cole and Ethel Louise Washington; two brothers, Samuel Tate and Dave Tate and a step daughter, Jennie Dortch.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century with the Rev. Vincent Dortch, eulogist and the Rev. Henry Carter, Pastor. Inhumation will be in the Century cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC directing. Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Funeral Home and her body will lie instate at the Church two hours prior to the funeral services.
