A love for competition is something that shines in Escambia Academy Cougars athlete Amber Huskey as she plays almost any sport she can suit up for whether it be athletics or academic.
Huskey, a sophomore at EA, is a three-sport athlete that plays basketball, softball and volleyball. She also recently joined the Cougars cheerleading squad, and at one point even showed off her intelligence by competing on the math team.
She said out of all her activities that her favorite sport takes place in the gym. She added that she joined cheerleading for her love of football.
Finding motivation for a game whether it be softball or basketball is easy, according to Huskey.
Huskey said in softball she just wants to play well and do her best for her team. She added that in basketball her motivation comes from her coach, Heath Gibson.
After getting pumped up, Huskey goes out looking to give her all in every game.
She said her best performance came in basketball against Pickens Academy.
Outside of sports, the Cougars’ athlete spends time making sure her grades are strong and she finds it easy in two classes.
Huskey said her favorite subjects at the Academy are math and English.
Once she leaves school and puts the books away, Huskey likes to hang out with her friends around town.
She said they will go out and find something to do in Atmore.
When not hanging out with friends, the basketball star enjoys listening to music and watching movies.
Huskey said that she enjoys listening to all kinds of music. She added that her favorite band is one that came before her time.
Her interest in movies is enveloped by her favorite actor and her favorite movie.
Huskey said her favorite actor has starred in movies involving sports and dancing. She added her favorite movie is one that all girls love to watch.
After high school, Huskey hopes to attend college and possibly play sports whever she goes.
She said her college of choice is the University of Alabama.
In her time at EA, Huskey has made a lot of memories, but some stick out more than others.
She said her best memory took place when she played junior varsity basketball.
