Relay for Life slated Saturday

Whether they have fought through it themselves or still are, or have been the helping hand to a loved one who is battling it, cancer survivors, fighters, caregivers and more will be uniting this weekend for Relay for Life.
Relay for Life of Atmore is in its 11th year and will hold its annual Relay Day event beginning at noon on Saturday at Tom Byrne Park.
Deborah Camp, chairman for Relay for Life of Atmore, said Relay team captains are working hard in preparation of the event and all are very excited about it. Camp said that it is truly an event for the entire community.
The day begins with opening ceremonies and cancer survivors making the first lap. The day continues with team activities and entertainment throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the event is the luminaria ceremony, a candle lighting ceremony.
The schedule of events for the day is as follows: Noon, opening ceremonies led by honorary chair Walt Butler; 12:30 p.m., Survivor Lap; 1 p.m., on stage Lana Langford; 1:30 p.m., The Atmore Cut-off; 2 p.m., team photos; 2:30 p.m., team activities; 3 p.m., on stage Shane &crew; 4 p.m., on stage Abby Akins; 4:30 p.m., team activities; 5 p.m. site judging begins/on stage Cross Roads; 5:30 p.m., team songs on main stage; 6 p.m., on stage Felicia Bishop; 7 p.m., Building Hope; 7:30 p.m., team activities; 8 p.m., on stage EverAlter; 9 p.m., Luminaria event; 9:45 p.m., team activities; 10:45 p.m., team activities; 11:30 p.m. Fight Back! Awards/Closing.
