A second-place finish in his home county in last week’s Republican primary for Senate District 22 has Brewton’s Danny Joyner pledging to run again in 2010.
The winner of the Senate race — which now pits Republican Greg Albritton against Democrat Marc Keahey — will fill the remaining term of late state Sen. Pat Lindsey, who died earlier this year.
Overall, Joyner earned 15.5 percent of the overall vote to Albritton’s 57 percent. Judy Belk was second with 27.5 percent. But Joyner was second place in Escambia County with 410 votes to Albritton’s 936.
Joyner said he tried to run a clean campaign.
And he pledged to continue working on the issues he raised during the campaign.
Joyner said, specifically naming the anti-dump campaign in Conecuh County and a project to build a recreational lake in Conecuh County.
Joyner had previously run for office, noting that he earned 48 percent of the vote against a sitting Democrat.
Albritton — a former state representative from Evergreen — and Keahey — a sitting representative from Grove Hill — will face off in a June 2 special general election to fill the remainder of Lindsey’s term.
Regardless of the outcome of the general election, Joyner said the district might not even be the same the next time there is an election for the seat.
