Atmore’s Masland Carpets will not be seeing the consolidation that its parent company The Dixie Group Inc. had planned for it in March.
The corporation has decided against the consolidation after finding better options to better serve their company.
Officials with The Dixie Group had planned on consolidating its Fabrica Division from California to facilities in the eastern United States, mainly Atmore, and including Saraland.
Gary Harmon, vice president and chief financial officer for Dixie Group, said it was decided to keep the consolidation on the West Coast.
If Dixie Group had consolidated to Atmore, it would have cost them $3 million to $5 million, and would have caused 13 percent of jobs to be lost.
Harmon said after seeing all possible options everything looked better to keep Fabrica in the western United States.
In late 2008, Dixie’s carpet tufting operation in Eton, Ga. was moved to the tufting, dyeing and finishing facility in Atmore.
