After a dismal 2-8 season in 2008, the Northview Chiefs are prepared to take the field for battle with a Northview win guaranteed as the Chiefs will host its annual Garnet &Gold game Friday night.
The Chiefs have taken the spring to work on their strength and toughness in effort to compete more physically.
Northview head coach Cody Keene said his team has been working hard to accomplishing its goals.
Defensively, the Chiefs are working to improve on pushing their opponents around and making sure they make the tackle.
Keene said the defense is already more powerful than it was last season. He added that there is still a lot of youth on that side of the ball though.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Chiefs physicality will help them focus on keeping the ball on the ground.
Keene said the spring practices have helped him find players for the backfield to help control the momentum of the game.
As a whole, the Chiefs have come into this spring with a new desire to compete and be successful.
Keene said the morale of his team has been strong and allowed players to step forward as leaders.
The Garnet and Gold game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday night in Bratt.
