A car chase that began in Atmore and ended in Walnut Hill, Fla. early Sunday morning ended with the driver of the fleeing vehicle shot and three Atmore police officers on paid administrative leave.
“We had a shots fired call at 1:37 this morning and pursued a vehicle thought to be involved in that complaint, that hasn’t been verified yet, and the vehicle fled into the Walnut Hill area,” Atmore Public Safety Director Glenn Carlee said.
Carlee said the names of the officers would not be released at this time and that the leave was the normal procedure for this type of incident.
Carlee said the suspect died at around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
