ATMORE - John Hodges Coley, 86, of Atmore died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in Pensacola.
He was the founder, owner and operator of Coley Air Conditioning and Heating, born in Cropwell on June 16, 1922 to the late Floyd and Sarah Coley. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore, a WWII Army Veteran, a 32nd degree mason, a member of the Warrington Elks Lodge, a member of the Eagles and the Grotto. He loved to dance and loved his music.
His wife, Mary Ava Coley; a sister, Helen Lackey and five brothers, Roy Coley, Rufus “Son” Coley, Fred Coley, Jack Coley and Frank Dillard preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his companion of 13 years Ellen Black of Pensacola, Fla.; one son, Danny Coley and wife Cathy of Atmore; two grandchildren, Judd Coley and wife, Abbey and Darbe Hooten and husband, Nathan; two great grandchildren, Hayden Coley and Kinsley Hooten.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Reece officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill cemetery. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
