Atmore resident Bradley Flowers competed in the 93rd Alabama Men’s State Amateur Golf Championship in Birmingham last Thursday and Friday at Greystone Country Club finishing 120th out of 156 golfers in the championship.
Flowers qualified for the event after finishing in the Top 40 percent of an 18-hole tournament at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores.
Flowers said he felt all right about his performance at the tournament in Birmingham.
Although he struggled, Flowers said he was able to find good things about playing to be named the best amateur in the state.
His struggles at the golf course fell on more than one thing because he found trouble at different places on the course.
Flowers said Greystone might be the most difficult course he has ever played. He added that some of his mechanics were the reason he was not able to perform better.
He was proud to make the championship at the Greystone Country Club because it took a good game in Gulf Shores to get him there.
Flowers said that making it through the qualifier is a great accomplishment that he was able to fulfill.
For his future in golf, Flowers is looking to play in some tournaments this summer and continue to work on his game.
He said he has seen things he needs to work on, and will continue to take his game as far as he can.
For now practice makes perfect.
