Greenlawn destroys Utilities Board 18-2

Greenlawn Home Health crushed Atmore Utilities Board 18-2 in Babe Ruth Baseball action on June 11 at Tom Byrne Park.
Greenlawn started the game with four quick runs as Demetrius Henderson, Keaton Maher, Shelby Carter and Malcolm Black all crossed the plate to give their team a 4-0 lead.
Henderson reached base on a fielder’s choice, while Maher advanced him by ripping a single.
They scored on an error by the first baseman in Carter’s at-bat. Black scored on a single by Logan Smith.
In the bottom of the first, Atmore’s Will Swartzendruber reached base on a walk and later scored on an error by the pitcher to pull his team within three runs.
Coty Merchant, Henderson and Maher all scored runs in the second inning to extend Greenlawn’s lead to 7-1.
A.J. Matthews scored Atmore’s final run in the bottom of the inning as he reached base on a single and scored on an passed ball by the catcher.
The flood gates opened in the top of the third as Black, Logan Smith, Tyler Sanspree, Nate Smith, Dustin Wilson and Henderson all crossed the plate to make the score 13-2.
Nate Smith, Wilson and Logan Smith all reached base on hits, while Black, Sanspree and Henderson all reached base on walks.
Several errors ocurred to give Greenlawn its opportunity to score so many runs.
The scoring rampage continued as Greenlawn batted around in the inning as Maher, Bo Bishop, Carter, Black and Sanspree each scored runs to bring the final to 18-2.
