Atmore resident Dawn Yoder, wife of Dr. Jon Yoder, was hit by a bolt of lightning this morning. She has been transferred from Atmore Community Hospital to Springhill Hospital in Mobile.
At 4 p.m., Dr. Jon Yoder said his wife was comatose due to the strike.
"Dawn is in serious condition with the strike leaving her comatose," Yoder said. "Her heart and lungs are in good condition, but her brain is what has suffered the most damage."
Yoder also said that his wife was taking out the garbage at the time the lightning hit her.
"She was taking out the trash this morning and the spot we take it to is just a few feet from the house," Yoder said. "Our son was home at the time, but Dawn had left a note saying she was going to pick blueberries at our neighbors and he thought she was doing that when she did not return."
