ATMORE - Dr. Ernest Dewitt Allen, 82, of Atmore died Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Atmore.
He was an ordained minister, serving at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church for many years. He was born in Mobile to the late John Hart and Ada Mae Dixon Allen on April 13, 1927. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
Two brothers, Cecil Allen and Leon Allen and one sister, Annie Laura Carter preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cobb Allen and son, Schuyler Dewitt Allen, both of Atmore; on granddaughter, Jennifer Allen Blanton and husband, John of Pace, Fla. and two great-grandsons, John Aaron Blanton and Kyle Allen Blanton.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 8, 2009 from the Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.
Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
