Ron Weinmann is always moving around

(This week The Atmore Advance visited with 69-year-old Ron Weinmann at the Atmore SAIL Center.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born July 30, 1939 in Akron Ohio.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Gordon Weinmann and Gertha Quarles Weinmann.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: My father was a machinist and tool and dye maker.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I have one sister. Sandra Ranew. She lives in Leesburg, Ga.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I attended elementary school in Ocala, Fla. and high school in Albany, Ga.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Yes, quite a lot. I have been all over the world because I was in the Navy. Since I have retired my wife and I still do a lot of traveling.
Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
A: I would like to visit Austrailia. It’s a different world down there. Different animals and a lot of unexplored territory.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I was in the Navy for 20 years and worked for the U.S. Post Office for 22 years.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: I have lived in Akron, Ocala, Albany, Long Beach, Memphis, Milton, Midway Island and Atmore.
Q: Any unusual stories from your life?
A: When i worked for the Postal Service, a doberman once ran smack into my jeep. I thought I killed it, but it got up and stumbled home.
Q: Did you ever marry? If so, what is your spouse’s name?
A: Yes. My wife’s name is Loraine Weinmann.
Q: How did you and your spouse meet?
A: We met at the American Legion dances.
Q: How many children do you have?
A: Five. Three sons and two daughters.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: Ten grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren through my marriage to Loraine.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: Robinsonville Baptist Church. I teach Sunday School there.
Q: What do you watch on TV?
A: I enjoy watching the History Channel. There are a lot of interesting things, and I love to learn.
Q: What has been your proudest accomplishment?
A: When I was in the Navy I fixed a radar on a P-3 aircraft. I got a letter of commendation from the Admiral for my work.
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I love golf and sports in general. I am into anything that requires activity.
