Brewton’s Babe Ruth All-Stars finished first in District 7 with a 9-3 victory over Monroeville Thursday night in the Babe Ruth District Tournament at Tom Byrne Park.
Brewton jumped ahead in the first inning with four runs as Conner Denton, Reid Johnson, Caleb McAnally and Logan Williamson all crossed the plate.
Monroeville closed the gap in the bottom of the inning with two runs as leadoff man Trevor Harris and and Trent Benson both scored runs.
Johnson helped Brewton extend their lead in the top of the second inning as he scored his second run of the game after reaching base on an error by the short stop. He was knocked in on a single by McAnally.
Brewton’s defense shut Monroeville down in the bottom of the second and third innings, while their offense added another run in the top of the third to give them a 6-2 lead.
Gary McGraw reached base on a single and was able to score on a single by Collin Graves.
In the top of the fourth, Brewton’s Monterius Culliver and Denton each made it on base and scored to put their team up 8-2.
Martin Brooks got Monroeville back on the board in the bottom of the fourth by hitting a double and scoring on a single by Trevor Benson to pull his team within five runs.
Both teams went scoreless in the next two innings before Brewton added their ninth and final run with Williamson scoring his second run of the game to put the game out of reach.
Brewton and Monroeville now travel to Tallassee for the Babe Ruth State Tournament.

Conner Denton and Logan Williamson helped Brewton’s Babe Ruth All-Stars move into the District 7 Championship Game with a 13-3 Wednesday night at Tom Byrne Park.
Brewton started the game hot with four runs in the bottom of the first inning as Denton, Caleb McAnally, Williamson and Gary McGraw all crossed the plate. McAnally had the shot of the inning with a two-run home run.
Monroeville got on the board in the second inning as they scored three runs with Trevor Harris, Robert Smith and Trevor Benson made it around the bases to pull within one run.
Brewton pulled further ahead in the bottom of the inning as Denton, Reid Johnson and Joseph Strength all scored to give their team a 7-3 lead.
From that point on, Brewton shutout Monroeville’s offense, while continuing to pile on runs.
In the bottom of the third, Denton scored his third run of the game, while Jarren Jackson scored his first to put Brewton up 9-3.
Williamson followed up in the fourth inning giving Brewton its 10th run and his second of the game.
Monterius Culliver crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth to add on to Brewton’s already tremendous lead.
In the final inning, Brewton applied the 10-run rule as Caleb Dickey and Keith Bradley each scored to give their team a 13-3 victory.

Atmore 2
Brewton again proved to be too much for Atmore’s Babe Ruth as they picked up a 12-2 win in the Babe Ruth District Tournament at Tom Byrne Park.
Four runs put Brewton out to a quick start with Monterius Culliver, Conner Denton, Reid Johnson and Logan Williamson all scored runs.
Atmore answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs as Cameron and Austin McGhee both scored to give Atmore its only points of the game.
Brewton added two runs to the scoreboard in the top of the second as Lewis Miller and Culliver both made it around the bases to extend their team’s lead 6-2.
In the fourth inning, Brewton’s lead grew as Denton, Johnson, Caleb McAnally, Williamson and Gary McGraw all to make the score 11-2.
Denton scored his third run of the game in the fifth inning to put Brewton up 12-2 and end the game on a 10-run rule.
