An investigation is underway by the Atmore Police Department into a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday following a night at an Atmore night club.
According to a press release from the APD, an Atmore police officer stopped a vehicle at approximately 3:30 a.m. for speeding. The officer subsequently learned the driver was speeding to take a passenger with a gunshot wound to the head to Atmore Community Hospital.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting took place in the area of Avenue E and was the result of an earlier altercation that occurred at the Flamingo Terrace nightclub located on Martin Luther King Drive.
Police are investigating several persons of interest in the case, but no one has been charged as of press time.
