Independence Day weekend was a jam packed weekend for Escambia Academy Cougar Jon Dean.
Dean took the weekend to participate in the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association All-Star weekend in Troy to show off and improve his skills.
Dean was one of 161 players who recieved an invitation to the camp after participating in a regional workout at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette.
While at the attending the event, Dean participated in athletic instruction for hitting and fielding, a tournment featuring eight teams and a banquet.
At the banquet, which was held for the athletes and their parents, Dean was able to see baseball coaches from every level of college baseball including community collge, NAIA and NCAA Divisions I, II and III. Each coach spoke on the advantages of each level and the different scholarships available.
Following the banquet there was an academic session where Troy University Graduate Assistant and athletic counselor spoke on issues that hinder student-athletes in college.
On the athletic side of things, there were video review sessions, an enrichment session on being a college athlete, strength and conditioning session and a favorite drills session.
Dean could not be reached for comment.
