A student-athlete is supposed to be able to handle several things at one time such as their school work and keeping grades up; practices, workouts and games and any other extracurricular activates that they might be apart of. If they are able to handle all of these tasks then they become something strong in their school not only on the field and classroom but in the eyes of their peers.
Escambia Academy senior Jon Dean is a three-sport athlete who also makes good grades and takes part in several different organizations, and measures his success off of the hard work he puts into accomplish all of his goals.
In school Dean participates in football, baseball and track, which he has won three state championships with. He also is a member of the Academy’s math team and also participates in Chamber Ambassador and is a member of the Youth Leadership Atmore Class of 2009.
As far as athletics go, Dean’s favorite sport is football where he will start as the Cougars’ wingback when they take the field next week against Sparta Academy.
Dean said his favorite thing about football is just being on the field with the other players on his team.
Taking the field for the game is something that is important to Dean as he enters his final season for the Cougars.
He said when he steps on the field he gets his motivation by knowing he is representing not only himself but others around him.
Outside of sports, Dean puts an emphasis on his school work and maintaining strong grades.
He said his favorite subjects in school are English/literature and pre-calculus.
After high school, Dean hopes to attend a university and continue his athletic career.
He said he would like to receive scholarship offers, but would be willing to work for his opportunity.
On an interesting note, Dean said he would like to have dinner with a former Heisman Trophy winner if he could have dinner with any celebrity or athlete.
He said he would choose Tim Tebow because of the type of character he shows on and off the field.
