BAY MINETTE - Mrs. Wardell Parker Gandy, 87, of Bay Minette transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2009 at North Baldwin Infirmary. She was retired and had worked as a Dietary Aid at Faulkner State Community college and as a childcare provider of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bay Minette where she served faithfully as an Usher.
Her husband, John Gandy Sr.; her parents, Jesse and Sally Parker Sr.; two sons, Herman Gandy Sr. and Tommie Gandy (who passed away on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009)
Those left to cherish with beautiful memories of her life are her daughter, Sally (Auben) Dortch-Smith of Bay Minette; six sons, John (Earnestine) Woods of Jacksonville, NC, John Williams of Camden, SC, John (Mary) Gandy Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, Robert (Alma) Gandy, Edgar Gandy and Larry Gandy, all of Bay Minette and Myrtle (bishop Charlie P. Andrews) of Lower Peachtree; two brothers, Johnny (Alean) Parker Sr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jesse Parker Jr. of Jacksonville, NC; 32 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bay Minette with the Rev. Elijah Johnson, pastor officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in the Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette. Public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home and a family hour will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Church. Her body will lie instate at the Church one hour prior to the Funeral services with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
