ATMORE - Mrs. Bessie McGhee “Sweet” O’Barr, 75, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009 in Atmore.
Bessie was born in Atmore on Nov. 10, 1933, she was a former longtime resident of Mobile and a resident of Atmore for the past 16 years. A tribal member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and Poarch S.A.I.L. and a lifetime member of St. Anna’s Episcopal Church.
Her husband, Mr. Joe O’Barr and a son, Michael Anthony O’Barr, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Joe E. and Ellen O’Barr Jr. of Atmore; three daughters, Brenda and Ricky Faircloth, Beverly O’Barr and Teresa “Shada” and Jamie Thomas, all of Atmore; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Buford L. Rolin of Atmore and William and Sheila Rolin of Stapleton; her sister, Lottie Duerst of Atmore and 13 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Milledge Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Judson/Creek Indian Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2009 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tony Wright, Kenny Williams, Phillip Martin, Robert “Robbie” McGhee, Daniel McGhee and Timothy “Bo” Slate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Garvis Sells, David Kirby, Jack Allen McGhee, Ronnie Ray Jackson, Eddie Tullis and Roger Griffey.
