The trend continues this week for Escambia County High School as the Blue Devils football team goes on the road traveling to Prichard to take on region rival and the top-ranked ranked team in Class 5A, the Vigor Wolves.
The Blue Devils (0-1, 0-0) are going into the match up hoping to avenge last season’s 54-22 loss at Herbert Barnes Stadium against a team that has won their last 16 games.
Blue Devils head coach Kyle Davis said the focus in practice this week is correcting mistakes from last week’s loss to T.R. Miller.
To correct those mistakes, the Blue Devils are putting in extra work with film review as well as group workouts.
Davis said getting each unit corrected is the main thing the coaching staff is working on.
Preparing for Vigor is a task that requires a lot of practice and hard work.
The defending state champions lost some key veterans, but returned a lot talent on both sides of the ball.
Davis said this is a big team that puts the focus on controlling how physical the game becomes.
Offensively, the Blue Devils look to capitalize on opportunities more this week after putting up a strong showing against T.R. Miller.
Davis said not scoring off turnovers and penalties held the Blue Devils back last week.
The Blue Devils and Wolves kick off at 7 p.m. Friday in Prichard.
