Following a tough loss to the Patrician Saints last Friday, the Escambia Cougars were back at work Monday afternoon preparing for their first home game as they host the Autauga Academy Generals Friday in Canoe.
The Cougars (1-1, 0-0) look to rally back from the loss and pick up their second win of their season behind their power running game that features, Jaylen Henry, Jon Dean, Cowboy McGhee and Braxton Chastang.
Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said the offense will work in practice to make sure their running game is able to put the ball into the endzone in short-yardage situations.
As for their opponents offense, the Cougars are looking at matching up their defense with the right formations.
Gibson said that the Generals like to mix it up when they are driving with the ball. He added that their defense likes to bring pressure.
In response, the Cougars’ defense will try to pressure the Generals into mistakes on the field.
Gibson said he hopes to work the Generals down where they line up in one formation. He added that he is showing the defense different offenses every day this week.
The Cougars and Generals kick off at 7 p.m. at Bachelor Field in Canoe.
