ATMORE – Steven Longmire Sr., 62, departed this life at Atmore Nursing Care on Sept. 22, 2009.
Steven Longmire was born on July 21, 1947 to the late Mary Elizabeth Williams and Watler Blackmon in Vrendenburg. He was a skilled craftsman who was affectionately known as “Uncle Cotton Head.”
Three sisters, Dessie Longmire, Dorothy McMillian and Leslie Joyce Townsend and one brother, Ceasar McCants, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra (Rosco) Shoemaker and Morgan Simmons; four sons, Stephen Longmire, Terrence Carter, Antwain Longmire and Vincent Longmire; seven grandchildren, Makeyla, Demetrious, Jasmine, Caleb, Terrance Jr., Antwain Jr. and Vincent Jr.; two brothers, Wallace (Shirley) Longmire and Woodrow (Dorena) Longmire; two sisters, Alice Sanders, Delores (Wade) Brown; a brother-in-law, L.T. Townsend and he also leaves devoted nieces, Krishandra Lyons and Patricia Longmire and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Gaines Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow at Stallworth Cemetery.
A family hour will be held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at Christian Memorial Funeral Home.
