Construction on a new hotel, Hampton Inn &Suites in Rivercane, will begin in early November, according to Atmore Industrial Development Board officials.
Joe Webb, project manager, said local hotel investors Raman and Savita Patel are finalizing architectural plans for the four-story, 81-room hotel.
The Patels purchased a two-acre parcel in the 643-acre commercial development project at Interstate 65 in October 2008. Initially, the Patels planned to begin construction in January, but are now running 10 months behind schedule.
Despite delays, Atmore Mayor Howard Shell said he is pleased to have another developer ready to break ground in Rivercane.
The property was purchased for $884,000, according Southern Real Estate’s Debbie Rowell, who represented the buyer. Saad &Vallas Realty Group was the listing agent for the property, which is located on the west side of Hwy. 21 south of the Muskogee Inn.
Mark Dauber with John Stanley &Associates visited the meeting and presented each board member with a sales packet focused on Rivercane, which outlined how his company was now online and explained how Rivercane fit in with the package.
“We are getting good response out of this,” he said. “People are coming around saying they would like to do something. We also do an email blast every month to all of the commercial developers in the state to get Rivercane out there.”
Dauber also explained that there is not much activity in the development business at this time.
In other business, the board:
Shell said he would like to get something in place by February.
