PERDIDO - Mrs. Velader W. Jackson, 93, of Perdido died Oct. 5, 2009 at her residence
She retired from Golden Dawn Nursing Home now known as Atmore Nursing Care Center. She was a member of St. Thomas AME of Perdido where she was class leader, choir member and deaconess.
Her father, Joe Williams; mother, Leatha Pierce Williams Brown; spouse, Yancy Jackson; stepfather, Andrew Brown; one sister, Gertrude Moss and two brothers, the Rev. Ballard Williams and Andrew Brown preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish memories are two daughters, Janis Baldwin of Oakland, Calif. and Deborah J. (Randy) McCall of Perdido; two sons, Joseph L. (Catherine) Jackson of Washington, D.C. and Dennis D. (Gina) Jackson of Perdido; seven sisters, Emily Packer, Ethel Curry and Johnnie Mae German, all of Perdido, Ruth Hardiman of Indianapolis, Ind., Naomi Pruitt of Detroit, Mich., Dorothy Jack of Atlanta, Ga., Eloise (George) Wilson of Tyler, Texas; three brothers, the Rev. Cleveland (Ruth) Williams of Jeffersonville, Ind., Melvin (Ruby) Roberson of Bay Minette and John Williams of Gary, Ind.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 10, 2009 at St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Perdido with the Rev. Abbie Jackson, pastor and Minister Maureen McGill, officiating. Interment will be in the morning at Dove Cemetery in Perdido with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
