CENTURY, Fla. - SFC Ivory Fletcher (US Army Retired), 70, of Century, Fla. and a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. died Sunday Oct. 11, 2009 at the Covenant Hospice Care in Pensacola, Fla.
He was a 1957 graduate of Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. He was a Vietnam Veteran and received numerous awards and retired after 21 years of service. He went to Broward Community College where he received his degree in health science. He worked as a public health nurse, emergency room nurse and a hospice care nurse.
His father, Jessie Fletcher and a brother, Vinson Fletcher, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Emma Fletcher of Century, Fla; mother, Willie Mae Fletcher of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, Ivory M. Fletcher of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Antonette Hightower of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two granddaughters, Taniya A. Fletcher of Century, Fla. and Ivory Sianae Fletcher of Ft. Myers, Fla.; mother-in-law, Minnie L. Odom of Flomaton; two aunts, Ula Mae Edwards and Vergeree Shaw, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; brothers and sister-in-laws, Bettye (Thomas) Phifer of Flomaton, Gil H. Odom of Pensacola, Fla., Florence Lane of Havelock, N.C., Darlene Kyles of Atmore and Roberta Odom of Century, Fla.; special cousins, Regina Shaw and Carolyn Edwards, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at Damascus Baptist Church in Flomaton with the Rev. Henry Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Fannie/Damascus Cemetery in Flomaton with Jackson-McMurray Funeral Home of Century, Fla. directing.
