Atmore’s newest travel baseball team was treated to a gift recently when Chuck Stevens Chevrolet co-owner Carl Smith donated new catcher’s equipment to the team.
The Atmore Royals are an 11-year-old travel team that started up in July and has played in three tournaments since then.
Marlon Lee, coach of the Royals, said his team was honored by the generosity of Smith and Chevrolet.
Since participating in its first tournament, the Royals have gotten better each time they have played.
Lee said things have gone well for such a new team.
The idea for the team came during Cal Ripken All-Stars earlier in the summer, according to Lee.
Lee said after speaking with some coaches his All-Star team faces each year it seemed like a good idea.
The Atmore Royals next tournament is Nov. 1 in Daphne.
