Mary McCarty Giddens

ATMORE - Mrs. Mary McCarty Giddens, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at a local hospital.
She was a native of Ideal, Ga. and a resident of Atmore since 1956. She owned and operated Gidden’s Beauty Shop for many years and attended Brook’s Memorial Baptist Church.
Her husband, Homer Giddens; a son, Garland “Red” Giddens; five sisters, Mildred, Vivian, Ireby, Willie Mae and Jennilou and two brothers, Walter and Freeman, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Giddens is survived by her daughter, Barbara Giddens Jones of Atmore; family friend, Harry Stover of Cantonment, Fla.; four grandchildren, LeeAnn and Dennis Stanton of Atmore, Kristy and Marty Lowman of Port Orange, Fla., Robert Homer “Bob” and Rose Giddens of Silver Hill and William R. and Gail Jones Jr. of Mobile; four great grandchildren, Charlotte Stanton, Brad Jones, Ashley Giddens and Jake Giddens; a great-great grandchild, Sara Rolin; her sister, Dorothy Sowder of Faulk, Ark. and her caregiver, Louree Bailey of Bratt, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Reggie Jones, Bob Giddens, Marty Lowman, Harry Stover, Brad Jones, Dennis Stanton and Jake Giddens.
