Dreams come true for the football players at Escambia Academy this Friday when the Cougars visit Springwood Academy in Lanett, Ala. for the first round of the AISA playoffs.
The Cougars (6-5, 5-2) have accomplished a complete turnaround by making the postseason after finishing the 2008 season 0-11.
With the playoff game just two days away, the Cougars have gone into practice with a ferocious attitude.
Cougars Head Coach Heath Gibson said the first day of practice was the best he had seen.
The Cougars are workign this week to stop a fast Springwood team that likes to run the football.
Gibson said the Cougars’ opponents have good quickness throughout their roster.
Two of the players the Cougars will attempt to slow down are Wingback Monta Booker and quaterback Trevor McCullough.
Gibson said Booker and McCullough are two of the offensive weapons that will put points on the board for Springwood.
To prepare his defense, Gibson has them working on coverages to help their ailing passing game.
On offense, the Cougars will work the spread to their advantage by using their size and speed.
The Cougars and Springwood kick off Friday at 7 p.m. in Lanett, Ala.
