ATMORE - Marie Stephany McGonnell Kizer, 72, of Atmore died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 in Atmore.
She was a bookkeeper with the county school system, born in Cleveland, Ohio on Jan. 29, 1937 to the late Joseph Matus and Emma Josephine Jankovitch Matus.
She grew up in Pasadena, Calif. and was an Alumni of Pasadena City College, and was a princess in the Rose Queens Court of 1954.
Survivors include her husband, James P. Kizer, LTCOL, USMC, RETD of Atmore; two sons, James P. Kizer Jr. and wife, Beth, of Navarre, Fla. and Steven J. Kizer and wife, Michelle, of Gulf Shores; one daughter, Stephany M. Kizer-Byers of Orange Beach; two sisters, Mary Ann Moore of El Sugendo, Calif. and Susan Evans of Shasta Lake, Calif.; four grandsons, James Garrett Kizer, Patrick Casey Byers, Bradley Joseph Byers and Spencer Joseph Kizer.
Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 7, 2009 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Father Milsted officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Jones, Bo Maxwell, Michael Dean, Tommy Moore, Dave Marshall and Jeff Byrd.
The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Center, P.O. Box 1999 Memphis, Tenn. 38101.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.
