Thanksgiving is upon us and it means several things.
First, tomorrow is a time to enjoy a good time and good food with those you care about, so enjoy your day of Thanksgiving and fill up on all of the good food that will fill the tables.
I know I’ll be excited about getting some pumpkin and pecan pie after eating a great Thanksgiving lunch.
That added with some football should make for a great Thanksgiving.
Second, the Iron Bowl is Friday, which means shoppers are going to be doing a double-time on their Black Friday visits to stores to make sure they get back in time for the game.
It will be interesting to see how the game shapes out, and it should be more competitive this year with Gus Malzahn’s offense making noise in the SEC. Hopefully, the Crimson Tide is able to walk out of Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 12-0 record with the Florida Gators waiting the following weekend.
Remember though, that taking your time and being careful is the most important thing, so don’t have an accident on your rush home to watch the action.
Also with high school football over, high school basketball is now in full swing, and area action has been looking really good.
There was a packed house at Escambia County’s gym Friday night to see Baldwin County and Escambia County hoop it up.
Atmore’s teams all put up a good fight against their rivals from Bay Minette, but none were able to pull out a victory against them.
It was nice seeing such support come out to cheer on both schools with more than 1,000 fans filling the gym to cheer on the Blue Devils and Tigers.
Halftime of the varsity boys game had a treat of its own as LaShonda Marshall’s Expose Divas and Gentleman X dance teams took the floor and showed off their moves to the crowd.
They got just as much applause and cheering as the basketball teams did.
With basketball here, it will be exciting to here the noise of all the gyms in the area.
Hopefully, the Cougars and Chiefs basketball programs will come out firing and pick up some early wins to get their seasons rocking and rolling.
So here’s to everyone starting the holidays off right with a good Thanksgiving. Let’s follow that up with some good basketball and a fantastic Christmas.
