EA varsity, JV girls start season 1-1

Jordan Jaye’s 20 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, four blocks and three assists was not enough as Sparta Academy squeaked by with a 58-52 win over Escambia Academy Monday night in Canoe.
Kay Leigh Miller added 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and five blocks for the varsity Lady Cougars (1-1) while Amber Huskey scored eight points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had three steals. Taylor Helton chipped in with nine rebounds and two points.
The Lady Warriors’ junior varsity took it to EA earlier that afternoon with a 40-23 win.
Gayton Emmons led the Lady Cougars (1-1) with 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Allie Brooks added eight points and 10 rebounds and Paige Allen chipped in with four points and nine boards.
On Nov. 21, Miller led EA’s varsity girls with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and eight steals in a 57-27 season opening win over Central Christian. Huskey and Jaye added 12 points each.
The junior varsity also picked up a win its season opener with a 48-13 win over Central Christian led by Emmons’ 14 points, seven rebounds and eight steals. Allen added nine points, while Peyton Snider, Lacie Flowers and LuLu McGhee had six points each.
