Devils roll past Jaguars

Cedric Pierce’s 25-point effort helped get the struggling Escambia County Blue Devils off of a three-game losing streak as they defeated the Hillcrest-Evergreen Jaguars 72-66 Tuesday in Evergreen.
Pierce led the Blue Devils (2-3, 0-0) with 25 points, while dishing out four assists, grabbing two steals and pulling down one rebound in the win.
It was a complete game with a team effort from several players on the ECHS roster with four players scoring in double-digits.
Blue Devils head coach Tim Moorer said it was one of the best games by his team this season.
The first period of the game as all Blue Devils as they ran away with a 22-7 lead to begin the game.
In that charge were Pierce Eric Davis, Quinton Craft and Lawrence Arnold.
Davis scored 12 points wo to with two assist and one rebound, while Craft added 11 points, five rebounds and one steal.
Arnold came close a couple rebounds shy of a double-double posting 10 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
Hillcrest fought back in the second quarter outscoring the Blue Devils 17-15 to make the score 37-24 at halftime.
After the break, the Jaguars again cut into the Blue Devils lead outscoring them 19-11 to give the Escambia County a five-point lead going into the final quarter.
The Blue Devils kept the lead in the final quarter outlasting any comeback attempts by Hillcrest as they made the final 72-66.
Senior Devante Brown scored seven points for the Blue Devils in the win, while posting five rebounds and one assist.
Rayvon Madison added five pints with four assists and two steals.
