Devils outshoot Miller

Atmore’s trip to Brewton went better than expected as the Escambia County Blue Devils added to their win total with a 56-47 victory over the T.R. Miller Tigers Friday night.
The Blue Devils (3-3, 0-0) picked up the win with a superior effort by guard Cedric Pierce who scored a game-high 32 points to go with five assists, three steals and one rebound.
It was a tough test for the visiting Blue Devils as they were outscored by the Tigers 12-9 in the first quarter.
The momentum swung in favor of Escambia County in the second period as they took the lead by scoring 19 points to Miller’s nine to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Blue Devils added to their lead by holding the Tigers to two points, while scoring nine of their own to pull ahead 38-23.
In the final period, Miller attempted closed the gap on the Blue Devils by scoring 23 points, while Escambia County added 18. The comeback was not enough for Miller to pull out a victory.
Blue Devils head coach Tim Moorer said his team was good enough to win the game.
Adding to the scoring for the Blue Devils in the win were Lawrence Arnold with six points, five rebounds, two blocks and one assist; Devante Brown with six points, three blocks, two steals, two rebounds and one assist; Quentin Craft with six points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist; Eric Davis with three points, one rebound and one assist and Kingston Craft with three points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The Blue Devils next game is at home against Northview. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
