Cougars beat Sparta 56-43

The Cougars of Canoe continued their stretch of dominance as they picked up their fifth region win by defeating the Sparta Warriors 56-43 in Evergreen Monday night.
The Cougars (11-4, 5-1) picked up the win with a team effort as three players scored in double-digits.
Escambia Academy was led by forwards Darron McGhee and Keaton Maher who each scored 14 points in the win.
McGhee recorded a double-double adding 14 rebounds and a block to his stats, while Maher pulled down nine rebounds, dished out two assists, blocked a shot and stole a pass.
Cougars center Nate Smith also recorded a double-double in the win scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. He also blocked seven shots and had two steals.
From the outside, EA guard James White led all guards with seven points, while posting three steals and two assists.
Cougars guard Brandon Goddard scored six points with two rebounds and a steal, and Michael Hipa scored five points with four assists, four steals and two rebounds.
Other Cougars posting stats included guard Jaylen Henry with two assists and a rebound and forward Tanner Kirk with two rebounds.
The Cougars next game is Friday at home against the Meadowivew Trojans. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.

Escambia Academy’s junior varsity boys squad picked up a win over their rivals in Evergreen as they slipped past the Sparta Warriors 31-28 Monday night.
The Cougars were able to escape Evergreen with leadership from Jordan Sasser’s 11 points and Paul Arnold’s 10 points.
Other Cougars to record stats included Jacob Dean with six points , Garrett Kirk with two points and Blake Quimby with two points.
