Lady Cougars fall to Sparta 65-53

Escambia County’s Lady Blue Devils opened up area play with a tough, road loss to the Vigor Lady Wolves Tuesday night falling 52-50.
The Lady Blue Devils (6-5, 0-1) played a strong game against the Lady Wolves, but a weak effort in the third quarter allowed Vigor to pull ahead and get the victory.
Lady Blue Devils Head Coach John Saxon said his team shot well from the field.
Lady Blue Devils guard Canuasha Crenshaw led Escambia County by recording a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also posted five steals, five blocks and three assists.
In the first quarter, Vigor pulled ahead of the Lady Blue Devils outscoring them 12-7.
The Lady Blue Devils found life in the second period as they put up 20-second quarter points and allowed the Lady Wolves to only score 12. At halftime, the Lady Blue Devils led 27-24.
After halftime, Vigor took advantage of poor offense by the Lady Blue Devils took grab the lead.
In the third quarter, Escambia County was only able to score six points, but gave up 16 to the Lady Wolves, which allowed them to head into the final quarter with the lead 40-33.
The Lady Blue Devils pushed the Lady Wolves to the limit in the final quarter as they outscored them 19-13, but they could not get over the hump to get the win.
Lady Blue Devils making their presence felt in the stat book included forward Jodeci Craft with 10 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, four blocks and three assists.
Lady Blue Devils guard Jasmine Ireland added eight points, seven steals, six rebounds four assists, while guard Diamond Williams scored seven points with eight steals, four rebounds and four assists.
Brianna Martin scored three points for ECHS with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Cha’Nae Lyles scored two points and recorded eight steals, four rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Devils next game is Jan. 12 at Spanish Fort. Tip off is at 6 p.m.

The Escambia County Lady Blue Devils started off 2010 on a high note as they defeated the Monroe County Tigers 41-31 in Monroeville on Jan. 2.
The Lady Blue Devils (6-4, 0-0) controlled the game from beginning to end as they outscored their opponents in the first three quarters.
Escambia County was led by guards Tiffany Madison and Jasmine Ireland. Madison finished the game with 13 points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists, while Ireland finished with 11 points, nine steals, seven rebounds and five assists.
In the first quarter, the Lady Blue Devils outscored the Lady Tigers 12-4, and added 13 points in the second quarter to go into halftime leading 25-14.
After halftime it was much of the same, as the Lady Blue Devils extended their lead by scoring 13 points in the third quarter and holding Monroe County to nine.
The Lady Tigers finally outscored the Lady Blue Devils in the fourth quarter, but it was too late as Escambia County picked up the 10-point victory.
Lady Blue Devils recording stats included Brianna Martin with five points, six steals, four rebounds, two assists and one block and Jodeci Craft with four points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks.
Canasusha Crenshaw added two points, eight rebounds, five steals, three blocks and three assists and Cha’Nae Lyles with two points, eight steals, six rebounds and one assist.
