Blue Devils fall to Gulf Shores

The Escambia County Blue Devils dropped their fourth-straight region contest Thursday night as they lost 49-39 to the Gulf Shores Dolphins in Gulf Shores.
The Blue Devils (6-10, 0-4) fell behind the Dolphins early, and could never recover to pick up a win.
Despite the loss, Blue Devils Head Coach Tim Moorer said his team played well and together.
In the first quarter, Gulf Shores used the homecourt to their advantage and earned a slight lead outscoring the Blue Devils 10-7.
The Blue Devils put up more points in the second period adding seven to their total, while the Dolphins were only allowed six. At halftime, the Dolphins led 16-14.
After halftime, the two teams continued to battle as the Dolphins slowly extended their lead.
In the third quarter, the Dolphins held the Blue Devils to nine points and added two to their lead by scoring 11.
The Dolphins sealed their victory over the Blue Devils in the fourth quarters scoring 20 points to the Blue Devils’ 15 to pick up the 10-point victory.
Blue Devils guard Cedric Pierce led Escambia County with 19 points. He also recorded three steals, two assists and one rebound.
The Blue Devils host Spanish Fort on Jan. 19 with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
