Twenty-point outbursts in the second and third quarters gave the Northview Lady Chiefs the points needed to put the Pensacola Christian Academy Lady Warriors away 62-40 on Jan. 14 in Pensacola.
The Lady Chiefs played one of their best games all season as they led from start to finish to rout the Lady Warriors.
One reason for the victory was as strong performance by Lady Chiefs Amber McMillan and Angela Rodriguez. McMillan led the team with 16 points, while Rodriguez added 15 of her own.
In the first quarter, the Lady Chiefs jumped out to a slim lead as they outscored the Lady Warriors 13-8.
Northview took advantage of their lead by 12 by pouring in points in the second quarter by outscoring PCA 20-8 to go into halftime with a 33-16 lead.
Following halftime, the tempo of the game remained the same as the Lady Chiefs continued to add points to the scoreboard.
The Lady Chiefs shot the lights out again in the third quarter scoring 20 points and holding the Lady Warriors back with their defense only allowing nine points.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Warriors finally outscored the Lady Chiefs putting up 15 points to Northview’s nine, but it was not enough to dent the huge lead the Lady Chiefs had mounted. At the buzzer, the Northview Lady Chiefs left Pensacola with a 62-40 win.
Lady Chiefs recording points included Shaniqua Jones with 13 points; Megan Ryan and Sarah Killam with five points each; Kassandra Lett and Mallory Turner with three points apiece and Lanecia Gomez with two points.
The Lady Chiefs next game is Thursday at Northview High School against Pensacola Christian Academy. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
