Lady Cougars win 63-13

Just two weeks after drubbing the Monroe Academy Lady Volunteers, the Lady Cougars of Escambia Academy were at it again this time crushing the Lady Volunteers by 50 in a 63-13 romp.
The No. 9 Lady Cougars (14-3, 6-2) scorched the Lady Volunteers in every quarter and even shut them out in the final period.
Lady Cougars senior center Jordan Jaye led the team with 10 points. Jaye also recorded eight rebounds, three steals, three blocks and an assist in the win.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars ran away from the Lady Volunteers outscoring them 17-6.
The Lady Cougars suffocated the Lady Volunteers offense in the second period holding them to three points,while their offense kept the scoreboard operator busy adding 22 points. At halftime, the Lady Cougars led 39-9.
After halftime, the Lady Cougars continued to put points on the board, while keeping the Monroe girls at bay.
In the third quarter, ,the Lady Cougars added 12 points to their total and allowed Monroe to score four, which would be their final points of the game.
In the final eight minutes of the game, the Lady Cougars of Canoe shutout the Lady Volunteers 12-0 and picked up the 63-13 victory.
Lady Cougars Head Coach Heath Gibson said his team played strong, which allowed him to rest his starters.
Lady Cougars junior forward Amber Huskey and eighth grade guard Lacie Flowers each scored nine points in the win. Huskey pulled down seven rebounds with eight steals, two assists and a block. Flowers had five steals, two rebounds and an assist.
Grayson Emmons, an eighth grade guard for the Lady Cougars, added eight points, while recording four steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Lady Cougars junior forward Taylor Helton scored six points with nine rebounds, five steals, three assists and one block, while senior guard Kay Leigh Miller recorded five points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Lady Cougars next game is Friday at Pickens Academy. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.

The Lady Cougars junior varsity defeated the Monroe Academy Lady Volunteers 38-8 Monday night.
The Lady Cougars (9-2) picked up the huge win by outscoring the Lady Volunteers at will.
Guard Paige Lancaster led the team with 11 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars shut the Lady Volunteers outscoring them 11-0.
The Lady Cougars extended their lead in the second quarter adding seven points to the scoreboard, while the Lady Volunteers got on the scoreboard with four points.
In the third quarter, the Lady Cougars held their lead by outscoring the Lady Volunteers 3-2.
The Lady Volunteers were put away for goood in the final period as the Lady Cougars shell shocked them 17-2 to win 38-8.
Lady Cougars recording stats included Grayson Emmons with nine points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists; Lacie Flowers with six points, seven steals, four rebounds, three assists and one block; Peyton Snider with six points, one rebound, one assist and one steal; Lulu McGhee with four points, four assists, four steals and two rebounds and Brooke McGhee with two points, two steals and three rebounds.

A pair of 11-point performances catapulted the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars to a 38-34 victory over the Southern Academy Lady Cougars Saturday in Greensboro.
The Lady Cougars (13-3, 5-2) earned the win after falling behind in the first quarter.
Senior center Jordan Jaye and junior forward Amber Huskey scored a team-high 11 points each in the win.
Jaye also recorded eight rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist, while Huskey recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block.
The EA Lady Cougars were in trouble early in the contest as the Southern Lady Cougars gained a quick lead outscoring them 7-2 in the first quarter.
The Lady Cougars of Canoe bounced back quickly in the second period scoring 12 points and allowing the Southern Lady Cougars to score seven, which knotted the teams at 14 at halftime.
After halftime, the two teams continued to battle in a close contest.
The EA Lady Cougars grabbed the lead in the third quarter albeit by a slim margin as they won the period 12-11.
In the final quarter, the EA Lady Cougars put the nail in the coffin with 12 more points added to their total, while holding the Southern Lady Cougars to nine, which gave Canoe’s home team the 38-34 win.
Lady Cougars Head Coach Heath Gibson said free throws were the key to his team’s victory.
Lady Cougars recording stats included junior forward Taylor Helton with six points, 10 rebounds, six steals, five assists and one block; junior guard Rachel Fuller with six points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals; junior guard Kristen Matthews with two points, one rebound and one assist and eighth grade guard Grayson Emmons with two points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds.

The Lady Cougars of Canoe defeated the Meadowview Lady Trojans 50-46 in overtime Friday night in Canoe.
The Lady Cougars (12-3, 4-2) picked up the victory after being down by as much as seven late in the fourth quarter.
Lady Cougars juniors Amber Huskey and Taylor Helton led the team. Huskey scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Helton added 10 points and nine rebounds.
