Each year, at this time, residents of Atmore are asked by the Chamber of Commerce to submit nominations for the Citizen of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award. Nominations must be turned into the Chamber office by Monday, Jan. 27.
The winner will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 4, at a banquet in their honor.
Sheryl Vickery, executive director of the Atmore Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber is looking for someone who is very deserving.
After the submission, a five-member committee will make the selection of the Citizen of the Year. These include the outgoing chamber president, the incoming chamber president, two people appointed to serve by the incoming president and one person who has received the award in the past. It is important that committee members have a broad knowledge of the community. A selection will be made based upon the content of the nominations, as well as the knowledge committee members have of the nominee. The committee reserves the right to nominate candidates for the award and their deliberation should remain confidential, as well as their selection.
From time to time, the Chamber of Commerce will present a Lifetime Achievement Award. Presentation may come as the result of the deliberations of the Citizen of the Year committee. Nominations are still being taken and may be turned in to the Atmore Chamber of Commerce at 501 S. Pensacola Ave.
