The idea of joining the Baldwin County basketball league seemed daunting for the Escambia County Middle School basketball coach Robert Smith, but his seventh and eighth grade teams pushed through the schedule to finish 9-0 and 16-0.
The ECMS Eagles finished their season Thursday as the eighth graders picked up a victory over UMS-Wright at Escambia County Middle School.
Smith said that he knew he had a good group of players, but he needed them to play well.
In joining the Baldwin County league, the Eagles were facing competition from schools that are considered larger in classification because of their school population.
Smith said that finishing undefeated shows the effort that was put forth by his team.
During their season, the Eagles closest game was against the Baldwin County Tigers.
Smith said the game against Bay Minette was his team’s best game of the year.
Players on the rosters for the Eagles include Davontae Walker, Chris Johnson, Andrew Rodgers, Jarvis Knight, Tony McAroy, Darius McCarty, Deseha Jenkins, Akem Gray, Garrett Jackson, LaCraig Brown, Joseph Ferrell, Jerome Webster, David Johnson, Melik McMillan, Markel Salter, Gordon Brooks, Fred Wiggins, Ty McNeal, Aaron Salter and Dexter Williams.
