Academy girls prep for playoffs

Following a run to the finals of the AISA Region two tournament, the Escambia Academy Lady Cougars are moving on to the AISA state playoffs beginning this Friday at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
The Lady Cougars (20-6) finished the region tournament 2-1 with wins over the Patrician Academy Lady Saints and the Meadowview Lady Trojans. Their lone loss came against the Pickens Academy Lady Pirates in the region championship.
With their opening round game against the Autauga Academy Lady Generals just two days away, the Lady Cougars are preparing by fixing any mistakes they might have made this season.
Lady Cougars Head Coach Heath Gibson said his team is just trying to get the little things right.
When the Lady Cougars take the court at noon Friday, they may think their opponent looks familiar.
Gibson said the Lady Generals take an approach very similar to his own team’s style.
Defensively, the Cougars will keep the Lady Generals on their toes with a press defense.
Gibson said that along with the press, he plans to throw in so me different defenses to surprise Autauga.
On the offensive end of the court, the Lady Cougars will try to open up their offense with more effort from their guards.
Gibson said he is preparing for the Lady Generals to try and stop his strong players in the post.
As for support, fans of the Lady Cougars will have to travel two hours up I-65 to see how their team performs.
Gibson said he hopes to see as many Lady Cougars fans as possible for the big game.
The Lady Cougars and Lady Generals tipoff Friday at noon at Huntingdon College.
