Lady Devils fall to Lady Chiefs

Northview’s Lady Chiefs traveled the few miles over the state line for a battle with the Escambia County Lady Blue Devils Tuesday at Tom Byrne Park.
Northview came away the victor in the opening day game for both schools as they left the park with a 19-4 win.
Lady Chiefs Head Coach Sammy Day said it was hard to get a judgement of his team’s performance due to the cold weather.
Through the first inning, the contest was tight as Northview led the hosting Lady Blue Devils 4-2.
The Lady Chiefs got on the board as Clarke, Montgomery, Doran and Vickry all crossed the plate.
The Lady Blue Devils notched their runs after Cha’Nae Lyles was walked and Michaela Norman sent a shot over the center field fence on the first pitch thrown to her.
Following the first, it was all Lady Chiefs as they added eight runs in the second and third innings with Simpson, Digmon, Clarke, Montgomery and Cobb all crossing the plate.
Jasmine Tolbert and Maneka Smith added the Lady Blue Devils’ final two runs in the bottom of the third as reched base on an error and Smith ripped a single.
In the fourth and fifth innings, Digmon, Montgomery, Doran, Simpson, Cobb and Vickry all made the trip around bases to bring Northview’s total to 19 when the game ended.
Lady Blue Devils Head Coach William Casaday said his team had signs of potential during Tuesday’s loss.
As for the Lady Chiefs, Day hopes the warmer weather works well for his team.
The Lady Chiefs next game is Monday at Central High School at 5 p.m.
The Lady Blue Devils next game is Tuesday at Northview against the Lady Chiefs with junior varsity at 4:30 p.m. and varsity beginning at 5 p.m. in Bratt, Fla.
