The Federal Bureau of Investigation remains tight-lipped following the raid of a downtown Atmore tax service and check cashing business Thursday morning.
Agents with the FBI have confirmed that they performed raids at three tax-related businesses in Escambia, Monroe and Clarke counties. However, they would not expand on why the raids were executed.
Just after 9 a.m. Thursday, federal agents with assistance from officers with the Atmore Police Department and agents with the Internal Revenue Service surrounded Preyear’s Tax Service and Check Cashing LLC and served a federal search warrant. During their raid, agents removed boxes of documents presumed to be paperwork filed by the Ridgeley Street business, as well as, computers and other equipment, all of which was placed in government vehicles for transport. At least one vehicle was also searched during the raid.
Locations of the business in Monroeville and Thomasville were also included in the search warrant, as was the Monroeville home of Alice Preyear Mobley. According to an official with the City of Atmore, Mobley is the owner of the business, according to business license records. During the search of Mobley’s home, agents removed items from it as well.
Also, the FBI confirmed that a tax service in Mississippi and one in Texas were also raided by agents.
The FBI says no one was arrested during the raids and that this is an ongoing investigation.
