ATMORE - Margaret Emma Rodgers Kemp was born Sept. 14, 1926 and passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on March 8, 2010.
Born in Castleberry, she was raised in Atmore, by her parents Dr. Henry Herbert and Hattie Lee Pate Rodgers, who preceded her in death.
She attended University of Alabama where she received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees, and spent 23 years teaching music at Elliot Point Elementary, where she made numerous cherished friendships.
On Oct. 29, 1951 she married Glenn Kemp in La Cruces, New Mexico, and they relocated to Okaloosa County in 1956. She was a member of the local Garden Club, and of Shalimar Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist, pianist and choir director.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Henry H. Rodgers Jr. and a son, John Rodgers Kemp.
She is survived by sons, Charles Henry Kemp (Mary) of Kansas City, Kan., Thomas Evans Kemp (Sally) of Pinellas Park, Fla. and Robert Dow Kemp of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and by her “adopted” daughter, Lynn Wiggins of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Additionally she is survived by granddaughters Andrea Barfety (Franck) and Hannah Faith Kay Kemp; grandsons, Grant Rodgers and Spencer Lee Kemp; great grandchildren, Camille and Gabe Barfety; sister-in-law, Ceres Rodgers of Atmore; nephews, Todd Rodgers (Debbie) of Atlanta, Ga., Matt Rodgers (Cherie) of Holly by the Sea and Mark Rodgers (Cynthia) of Atmore.
A memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. April 3, 2010 at Shalimar Presbyterian Church. Burial of the cremains will follow at 3 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery.
