Another hunting season over, another scholarship given away by the National Wild Turkery Federation.
Wade Matthews, the son of Hooper and Dianne Matthews, was awarded a $500 scholarship Saturday night by the NWTF at the Atmore Country Club.
Matthews, a senior at Escambia Academy, said the NWTF is an organization built towards preserving the outdoors.
To earn the scholarship, Matthews had to write an essay.
He said he had the outdoor part covered being he was basically raised outdoors.
When it comes to hunting and fishing, Matthews finds joy in the atmosphere.
He said it’s not about going out just to kill something.
Matthews will use his scholarship upon beginning his collegiate career at Auburn University.
The EA senior said he is undecided on his major, but knows what he would like to study in college.
