Escambia County property owners who don't pay their taxes by the end of business today will have an additional penalty assessed on their accounts.
Officials with the Escambia County Tax Collectors office say the penalties assessed on April 1 for unpaid property taxes will be the third penalty assessed to those who did not pay taxes by the Dec. 31 due date.
Following the close of business on March 31, unpaid property taxes and penalties assessed on those accounts would be publicly advertised for a period of three weeks. During that period, taxes and penalties can be paid saving additional penalties and fees to the property owner.
Property holding unpaid taxes and penalties will be sold at a "tax sale" in May, officials said.
