Members of the Poarch Creek Tribal Youth Council celebrate Earth Day all year long through a variety of activities and events. The group will take that celebration to the community Thursday by hosting an Earth Day Health Walk.
Alex Alvarez, advisor for the group, said the event will be more than a pleasant walk with council members spreading information concerning earth and money saving strategies.
Alvarez said the 20-plus members of the group will begin the walk at 4 p.m. Thursday and follow a route that covers most of the Poarch area.
Throughout the walk, members of the council will be handing out informational brochures letting residents know what they can do to help the environment and save money at the same time.
Although the event is sponsored by the Council, Alvarez said anyone may join in the walk.
Officers for the Council include Megan Flurnoy, who serves as chief; Justin Stabler is second chief; Connie Colbert is speaker; and secretaries are Bethany Crook and Haley Clark.
Alvarez said the groups meets each week on Monday and is regularly active in events that focus on the environment, community service and cultural activities.
