EA Cougars fall to Edgewood in playoffs

The Escambia Academy Cougars baseball team’s season has come to an end with two losses in the AISA playoffs to the Edgewood Wildcats Friday in Elmore.
The Cougars lost the second game of the doubleheader 15-1 and the first game 10-0.
In the second game, the Cougars were led by Hunter Bates who recorded the lone RBI. Bates hit 1-for-2 in the loss.
On the mound, James Dean took the loss for the Cougars pitching five innings, while striking out two and walking three.
Cougars recording hits in the game included Jon Dean (2-for-2), James Dean (2-for-3), Brandon Goins (1-for-3) and Wade Matthews (1-for-2).
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Cougars were unable to score any runs, and were almost no-hit by the Wildcats.
Cougar Jarrett Hadley recorded the only EA hit going 1-for-2 in the contest.
Keaton Maher took the loss on the mound pitching 2 1/3 innings striking out three and walking four.
Goins came in for relief duty pitching 2 2/3 innings striking out one batter.
Cougars Head Coach Josh Daugett said Edgewood did a good job of getting hits and runs.
With the end of the season, the Cougars finish 13-12 and look promising for next season.
Daugett said he likes what he has seen from his younger players.
