Atmore 11-year-old All-Stars knocked out of tourney

Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars had their hopes for a district championship dashed Tuesday night at Semmes Community Park in Semmes.

Atmore was crushed soundly 15-6 by Tillmans Corner.

Atmore jumped on the scoreboard first with two runs scoring in the top of the first as Ryan Johnson and Devon Robinson crossed the plate.

Tillmans Corner responded by tying the game at two in the bottom of the inningwith Trae and Walker scoring runs.

A run scored by Marlon Lee in the top of the second helped give Atmore the lead again in the top of the second, but that would be the last time they would be in control.

A five-run effort by Tillmans Corner in the bottom of the second allowed them to take a 7-3 lead, which they would not surrender Tillmans Corner runners scoring included Tray, Carter, Tyler, Trae and Walker.

Tillmans Corner continued to dominate the game in the bottom of the third making the score 10-3 with Austin, Tray and Carter scoring.

Atmore added another run to the scoreboard in the top of the fourth this time with Gayton Thames making the trip around the basepath.

Nytorious Cooler helped Atmore pull within five runs of Tillmans Corner in the top of the fifth being knocked inby Brandon Cummings.

Tillmans Corner would pull away even more Atmore in the bottom half of the fifth with Tyler, Trae, Walker and Christian all scoring putting them on top 14-5.

A lone run scored by Ryan Johnson in the sixth inning got Atmore to six runs, but it would not be nearly enough as Austin scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth to give Tillmans Corner a 15-6 win.

In their final game of the district tournament, Atmore’s 11-year-old All-Stars were narrowly defeated 5-4 by Satsuma Monday in Theodore.

Atmore took control of the game in the bottom of the first as Ryan Johnson and Eric Williams both made their way around the basepath to score.

Atmore held their 2-0 lead until the top of the fifth inning when Satsuma scored five runs with C. Edge, Z. Bunn, J. Whigham, A. Sweet, L. Kelly and A. Barefoot all scoring runs.

Atmore pulled within two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Williams scored his second run of the game.

Atmore failed in their last chance at a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning only scoring one run with Brad Geck being the lone Atmore player crossing the plate in the 5-4 loss.

Matthews Park 15

Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars suffered their first loss of the district tournament at Matthews Park in Theodore as Matthews Park crushed them 15-5.

Atmore opened the game on a tear scoring four quick runs with Ryan Johnson, Devon Robinson, Brandon Cummings and Marlon Lee all scoring.

Matthews Park was able to respond with one run in the bottom of the first as J. Tolbert scored.

Matthews Park took the lead in the bottom of the second scoring four runs as T. Swails, N. Haglers, C. Jones and H. Maxey all made their way around the basepath.

Matthews Park’s extended their lead 6-4 in the bottom of the third with J. Morris scoring.

Atmore cut the lead to one run in the top of the fourth as Ryan Johnson scored his second run of the game, but it would not stop Matthews Park from picking up a big fourth inning.

A nine-run bottom of the fourth ended the game in a 10-run rule as D. Goff, H. Maxey, J. Tolbert, T. Allen, J. Morris, C. Sullivan, T. Swails, N. Haglers and C. Jones all scored.

Atmore 14

Semmes 13

Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars opened their district tournament at Matthews Park in Theodore with a barn burner as they outlasted Semmes 14-13.

Atmore and Semmes battled back-and-forth throughout the game exchanging the lead several times before Atmore secured their victory in the seventh and final inning.

Down 13-7 going into the bottom of the sixth, Atmore scored six runs thanks to a grand slam by Eric Williams and a homerun by Xan McGhee, which was his second of the game.

Tied at 13 heading into the seventh, the Atmore defense stifled Semmes sending their batters down in order.

In their final trip to the plate, Atmore had three batters get on base with Tyler scoring the winning run for Atmore.
